Saturday Rave: Surprised by joy - impatient as the wind by William Wordsworth.

Surprised by Joy is the title of an autobiographical work CS Lewis wrote about his discovery of Christianity. It was written before his very sadly cut-short marriage to his wife, Joy Davidman Gresham: but the title was a shadow of the future.

But first of all Surprised by joy was the beginning of a poem by William Wordsworth.

Surprised by joy - impatient as the wind
I wished to share the transport - Oh! with whom
But thee, long buried in the silent tomb.

Is there a better description of the recurring shock of grief to be found anywhere?

Word To Use Today: joy. This word comes to us from the Old French from the Latin gaudēre to be glad.

    1. Thanks so much, Katherine. Oh, and just look at The Word Den's blogroll! Seven Miles of Steel Thistles has a piece about CS Lewis's The Magician's Nephew. Do read it, everyone, it's bound to be extraordinary and fascinating.
