Saturday Rave: Busy Doing Nothing, Working The Whole Day Through

Bing Crosby was a wonderful singer and comic actor:

with Bob Hope (left) in the 1952 film Road to Bali. Love the spats!

He wrote this cheeriest of songs, too.

We're busy doin' nothin'
Workin' the whole day through
Tryin' to find lots of things not to do
We're busy goin' nowhere
Isn't it just a crime
We'd like to be unhappy, but
We never do have the time

I have to watch the river
To see that it doesn't stop
And stick around the rosebuds
So they'll know when to pop
And keep the crickets cheerful
They're really a solemn bunch
Hustle, bustle
And only an hour for lunch...

There may not be much Spring in the weather where you are at the moment: but at least now surely there should be a spring in your step - even if today the only journey you plan on making today is from the sofa to the fridge.

Word To Use Today If You're Feeling Energetic Enough: busy. The Old English form of this word, bisig, was much more sensibly spelled than the modern version.

  2. Thanks very much for your comment, Unknown. I heard a man in a pub yesterday longing for a properly funny comedy to cheer everyone up, and speaking wistfully of Geoffrey Palmer.
    Please keep well!
