Spot the Frippet: Homo sapiens.

Sometimes discovering the origin of a word produces a moment of blinding insight.

In this case, however, it's more of a hollow laugh.

Spot the Frippet: Homo sapiens. Homo is Latin for man, and sapiens is Latin for wise.

It's not that easy a spot once you know that.

Good luck!

This is Socrates. This is a Roman sculpture in the Louvre, but might be a copy of an earlier work by Lysippos.

Would you have known Socrates was wise by his looks?
