Breaking the rules: a rant.
Look, why is it that when you ask someone if they have a habit of doing something, and they reply yes, as a rule, the function of this phrase is to make it clear that it isn't a rule at all? Huh? Word To Use Today: rule. This word comes from the Old French riule, from the Latin rēgula, a straight edge.
