Cock-a-doodle-doo*: a rant.

The shoe manufacturer Hotter sent me an email the other day featuring Shipley, their popular go-anywhere shoe, at the presumably very reasonable price of £79.

One Shoe, Endless Possibilities, it said.

But...

...if you have only one shoe then surely the only possibility is to...

...um...

...hop.

Isn't it?

Word To Use Today: possibility. This word comes from the Latin possibilis, from posse, to be able.

*Cock-a-doodle-doo
My dame has lost her shoe
My master's lost his fiddling stick
And doesn't know what to do.

  2. The other week, I saw a sign at a shoe shop that said "Enormous Shoe Sale". Having larger than average feet, and tired of always being told that yes, they do stock my size, but they always sell out really quickly, I went into the shop feeling very smug and asked them: "So, where is this enormous shoe you're selling?" The shopkeeper politely turned and lead me to the back section of the shop when they did indeed have a fine selection of enormous shoes on display. I came away with a lovely pair of dress boots, and the distinct feeling that I had been thoroughly outsmarted.
